From the State OMTA Website:
The goal of the OMTA Composition Festival is to inspire young composers by providing a forum for creativity and self-expression. Learning how to compose music opens up avenues for creativity and self-expression. In addition, that knowledge increases students’ understanding of the structure and character of the pieces they are practicing. Students submit their compositions to be critiqued by the adjudicator prior to their District Festival. Compositions must be scored by the student not the teacher, either by hand at the district level, or in computer notation at the state level. Compositions are evaluated on notation, form, timbre and style. All district participants receive a certificate of Participation and a written evaluation of their own composition from the adjudicator.
